Day 2
At
breakfast we met a member of our group named Vicky. Vicky was there to adopt a
little boy who had a cleft lip, this was her first adoption, and actually her
first child. Vicky had traveled around the world and was very helpful in
showing us the ropes. We also met Becky, who traveled with Vicky to bring sweet
Hayden home. Becky was an ER nurse and we hit it off right away. Then we met
Kelly & John with their son Evan (from China) who came with Kelly’s mom
Jane to China to adopt their second child. Our guide Summer took us to see “The
Forbidden City” and the square. We toured this area for about2 hours and then
we went to a restaurant and had a delicious meal. Summer ordered for us, and
she did a great job. Brian and I found it odd that the food was spicy, and
everyone in China drinks hot tea with their meals.
After
lunch we drove about an hour until we made our way to the Great Wall. It was
beautiful!!!
Very high and very steep. It took Brian and I about 20 minutes to
get to the first tower, we had to stop several times before reaching that
tower. It was very hard, most of the steps aren’t even some being about 6
inches apart others like 2 feet apart. Coming down was just as hard as going
up. One missed step and you would die…… Brian thought he was going to have a
heart attack getting to the top. After we came down we waited for the rest of
the group and then it was back to Beijing for dinner. Again Summer took us to a
great restaurant and ordered a delicious meal.
Peking duck….. Not my favorite. After dinner Summer gave us all T-shirts
with our children’s Chinese names on them. Summer is a sweet and sweet girl and
a wonderful guide. We returned to our
hotel, and it was lights out for Brian and I.
We didn't eat these.......
Tomorrow
we are leaving for Guangzhou, and the others in our group are heading to their
children’s provinces for their gotcha day.
