Day 3:
We grabbed a quick breakfast
at the hotel and left the hotel by 8:30. Once we arrived at the airport Summer
checked us in and made sure we made it to the correct gate. Security at the
Beijing airport is no funny matter. We had to go through the scanner multiple
times, they went through my wallet, the baby bag (throwing out the bubbles we
brought for Hadley) then we made it to the terminal to wait. When it was our
time to board the plane they herded us on this bus like a bunch of sardines.
They’re at least 700 people on one bus; I almost had a heart attack….. I am
funny about my personal space and I will probably have PTSD from that
experience.
The
flight to Guangzhou was uneventful, minus the lady beside me laying on my
shoulder, and the man in front of my laying his seat back in my lap. It took us
about 3 hours to get there, once there we met Helen our guide for two weeks.
Helen quickly got us to our hotel, checked us in, and took us to our room.
Helen was great at explaining what we needed to do in the next few days. Helen
also collected a few important papers and the money. Now let me just say this
about the money, if you’re reading this then you probably know how much money
it is to adopt internationally, so you may not be surprised. Others may be. We
gave Helen 7100.00 in US currency; Brian was slightly unnerved about giving
that much money to a woman we met just an hour ago, but we did. After she left
the room he looked at me and said “I hope that was the right Helen”.
We
walked to the seven eleven behind the hotel and grabbed a few things, and then
we ate at McDonalds for dinner. I was never so happy to see a Mickey D’s in my
life!!! After that we went to our room, unpacked and went to bed. Tomorrow’s
the big day!!!
